Course Offerings in 2016-17 School Year
Music Theory:

Students in this class develop the fundamentals of musicianship through introductory music theory and history, as well as rudimentary piano technique. Periods of music history and the music of many cultures are explored. This class is open to students who need review of basic music reading skills. This class will lay the foundation for entry into a performing ensemble in the following years (such as Intermediate Piano, Steel Drums, or Mariachi). This class does not include afterschool rehearsals or performances.

Non-Varsity Piano:Must pass Music Theory I
OR Display sufficient prior musical knowledge to Mrs. V. |
Students in this class develop musicianship through study of piano technique, music history eras in relationship to piano performance practice, and music theory. These students will explore a range of piano styles, and out of school performances will be required. These students will prepare a UIL level 2 or 3 piece from the Prescribed Music List, and will have the opportunity to take the piece to competition.

Varsity Piano:Must pass Piano I & II
OR Demonstrate appropriate level of piano technique to Mrs. V. |
Students in this class will develop musicianship through study of piano technique, music history eras in relationship to solo piano performance practice, music theory, and collaborative piano techniques. These students will work on a variety of solo piano repertoire, as well as experience piano as collaboration by working with solo vocalists or instrumentalists, or by accompanying a large ensemble. Out of school performances and rehearsals will be required. These pianists will also prepare a UIL level 1 or 2 solo and compete at UIL solo/ensemble.
